Spaghetti

Let’s start with a common classic! You may not even need help with this one (kudos to you).

Spaghetti is a long, thin pasta that’s probably the most well-known type of pasta in the world. It’s typically served with tomato-based sauces, like marinara or bolognese, but it can also be paired with cream-based sauces, like Alfredo. Spaghetti is the perfect pasta for twirling around your fork!

Linguine

Linguine is similar to spaghetti, but it’s flatter and wider. It’s often served with seafood, like clams or shrimp, and can also be paired with a variety of sauces. Linguine has a slightly chewier texture than spaghetti, which makes it great for holding onto thick sauces.

Fettuccine

Fettuccine is a wider, ribbon-like pasta that’s typically served with creamy sauces, like Alfredo or carbonara. It’s a bit thicker and heavier than spaghetti or linguine, which makes it a filling option for a hearty meal. It’s also often paired with Alfredo sauce!

Cappelini

Cappelini, also known as angel hair pasta, is a very thin, delicate pasta that cooks quickly. It’s best paired with light, simple sauces, like olive oil and garlic or tomato and basil. Cappelini can be a bit tricky to cook, as it can become mushy if cooked too long. So be sure to keep an eye on it!

Penne Rigate

Finally, we have penne rigate! This short, tube-shaped pasta is great for holding onto thick, chunky sauces, like pesto or tomato-based sauces with lots of vegetables. The ridges on the outside of the pasta help the sauce cling to it, making each bite flavorful and satisfying.

Pappardelle

Pappardelle is a wide, flat pasta that’s perfect for hearty meat sauces or stews. It’s often served with game meats, like rabbit or wild boar, or with mushrooms and truffle oil. Pappardelle has a slightly chewy texture that holds up well to rich, heavy sauces.
